Tesla expands premium Immersive Sound to new Model 3 and Model Y

Tesla is releasing a new audio software update soon. The 2026 Spring Update brings a feature called Premium Immersive Sound to certain vehicles. This addition applies only to the newest Model 3 and Model Y cars that have the Premium Audio package.

How the new audio works

The software uses advanced sound extraction to change the listening experience. Instead of playing regular stereo, the car creates a 3D-like effect inside the cabin. The system actively places the listener “in front of a detailed soundstage within an immersive space.”

You can use this feature with any media you want. For example, it works with all streaming sources you play in the car. You do not need special audio tracks to hear the difference. The car processes the standard audio signal. Then, it spreads the sound around the cabin using the existing speakers. Listeners get a wider sound field without downloading specific spatial audio files.

Adjusting the settings

Drivers can find the new controls easily on the touchscreen. Go to Settings > Audio > Tone > Immersive Sound on the main display. Here, you will see a slider tool. This slider lets you change the size of the immersive space to match your personal preference.

Some people want a lot of spatial depth for their music. Others prefer a standard stereo sound. Still, you do not have to adjust the slider manually every single time you drive. The menu includes a helpful Auto option. When set to Auto, the immersion automatically adapts based on the type of media being played. For instance, a podcast might get less spatial treatment than a loud pop song. The car handles the changes quietly in the background.

This concept is not entirely new for the company. Earlier, Tesla launched a very similar feature in the Model Y L. That version is called Immersive Sound X. It uses that specific car’s 18-speaker setup to create a theater-like environment. Now, the standard Premium Audio cars get their own version of it.

A better stereo setup keeps passengers happy on long road trips. Currently, many families use their car screens to watch movies while charging at superchargers. The new audio profile makes those movie sessions feel more cinematic. Clearly, the engineering team wants the car to function like a mobile living room.

The rollout begins with the upcoming spring release. After the installation finishes, the new audio settings will appear right away.

Buyers pay extra money for the Premium Audio tier. Naturally, they want to get the absolute most value out of it. The spring update answers that call directly. Users can start testing the soundstage as soon as their car reboots.
