Tesla released its robotaxi app for iPhone users in the United States. Anyone can download the app and join a waitlist. Early members started getting access to driverless rides just hours after launch. The app displays maps for Austin and San Francisco. Users sign up, join the waitlist, and get notified when they have access. An Android version is planned but not available yet.

The robotaxi program is active in Austin. It started in June and is now open to the public after months of testing with select users. The geofenced area covers about 190 square miles, including Giga Texas and Austin’s airport.

Tesla uses Model Y vehicles with its full self-driving software. Most rides still have a safety driver, now positioned in the driver’s seat for trips that use highways. Tesla explained that safety drivers on highways are needed as a careful first step. Texas and California laws require extra oversight for autonomous rides. Elon Musk said Tesla wants to remove safety drivers by the end of the year, but this depends on regulations.

User Rules and Pricing

Users must be 18 or older to use robotaxi. Children under 13 are not allowed, even with adults present. The current service runs from 6 am to midnight, and rides cost $4.20 in Austin. The app lets riders track their car and send feedback. Recent updates add new features and news about the service.

The robotaxi app moved to the top of the Apple travel app charts after launch, showing high interest. Tesla is adding people from the waitlist step-by-step and focusing on safety. The company wants local users for daily commuting and errands and plans to expand the fleet and locations over time.

The app is easy to use, allowing ride requests, real-time vehicle tracking, and feedback submission. The public rollout marks Tesla’s largest move for its self-driving technology so far.
