Tesla Semi Factory Near Giga Nevada Takes Shape

In a recent update, Tesla Semi program Senior Manager Dan Priestley shared insights on the progress of the Class 8 all-electric truck’s production facility near Giga Nevada. While the pace may not match larger projects like Giga Shanghai, the upcoming facility is steadily taking form.

Priestley took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his observations after a recent visit to the semi-factory site. His update included a photo showcasing several production semi-units, with one notably lacking an air deflector on its roof.

The progress at the factory’s buildout site appears substantial, as evidenced by footage shared by Tesla Semi advocate @HinrichsZane on X. The aerial video, captured on Friday afternoon, September 6, 2024, highlights several key developments in the construction area.

Aerial update on Tesla Semi factory construction. Panels installed in NW corner, more steel beams set up nearby. Concrete floor poured in covered area. It’s starting to look like a real building! #TeslaSemi #GigaNevada

The footage reveals that several panels have been installed on the far northwest corner of the facility, with additional steel beams set up nearby. Inside the covered area, concrete has been poured to create a floor. These developments mark significant progress, as the initial parts of the Semi factory are beginning to resemble an actual building.

Interestingly, the aerial footage suggests that Tesla has enlisted the services of BZI, a steel fabrication company based in Utah, for the Semi factory’s construction. BZI, known for specializing in large-scale steel construction projects, brings its own innovative approach to the build.

At the Tesla Semi facility, BZI appears to be utilizing several of its specialized tools:

  1. Panel Table: A transportable, self-contained table system
  2. MezzMaster: A telehandler attachment for secure assembly holding
  3. SkyBrace: A rigid-brace system allowing structure building without extensive temporal cable X-bracing

The use of these advanced construction tools and techniques adds an extra layer of interest to the ongoing development of the Tesla Semi factory. As construction progresses, the project continues to draw attention from both Tesla enthusiasts and industry observers alike.
