With Hurricane Milton intensifying into a Category 4 storm and approaching the Tampa Bay, Florida area, Tesla has shared several important reminders for its customers. The company took to its official Tesla Charging account on X to advise owners on how to prepare for the severe weather event. Tesla is urging vehicle owners to charge their cars to 100% if possible and to stay updated on the status of the Supercharger Network via their car’s infotainment system or the Tesla App.

As part of its pre-hurricane preparations, Tesla is focused on maintaining the uptime of its Supercharger stations. Following Hurricane Milton, Tesla will prioritize restoring its charging infrastructure in affected areas. To aid in this effort, the company is prepared to deploy mobile Superchargers powered by Megapack batteries in regions most impacted by the storm.

Tesla’s mobile Superchargers, initially spotted by EV community members in November 2019, consist of Megapack batteries and multiple Urban Supercharger stalls. These mobile units were first deployed in San Luis Obispo, California, during the Thanksgiving holiday. At that time, they provided peak charging rates of up to 125 kW, helping travelers on the road.

It remains to be seen if Tesla has increased the output of its Megapack-powered mobile Superchargers since their first deployment, but even 125 kW charging capacity could prove crucial during this emergency, ensuring that Tesla owners can recharge and stay mobile in the aftermath of the storm.

Hurricane Milton, with wind speeds of up to 155 mph, has already heightened tensions as the east coast recovers from the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. Tesla’s proactive steps are aimed at helping customers navigate the challenges posed by this powerful weather event.
