Tesla brings insurance, dashcam, software, and towing features to its smartphone app

Tesla is updating its smartphone application with several practical functions to make vehicle ownership easier for drivers. These software changes tackle insurance transparency and camera storage along with a new diagnostic tool for towing. Drivers already rely heavily on the app to manage their cars. People use it to move their vehicles using Summon or to set cabin temperatures and send navigation instructions before a commute. But the company is now adding to those daily conveniences with a fresh batch of software features first spotted by Tesla App Updates.

Tesla insurance

The Spring 2026 update brings clear changes to the company’s in-house coverage program. Now drivers can look at the app and see exactly how using Full Self-Driving lowers their monthly premiums. Then the system automatically grants a perfect Safety Score of 100 for every mile driven with Full Self-Driving (Supervised) engaged. And this financial incentive makes the software much more appealing to regular commuters who want to cut down their driving costs.

Software update tracking

Owners used to wait for a green arrow to appear on the center touchscreen or check their phones to start a software installation. But now the process happens without any manual input at all.

The automaker is turning on a new feature that downloads vehicle updates automatically in the background. Then you just wake up and find the latest software ready to go without tapping any buttons.

Remote storage management for cameras

Dashcam video files take up a lot of space and fill up USB drives quickly during daily driving. And managing that storage used to require sitting in the car to tap through screen menus.

But now you can remotely format your flash drive and delete old video clips straight from your phone. And clearing out unneeded footage takes only a few seconds when you manage it from the palm of your hand.

Trailer light diagnostic test

Testing trailer connections is usually a frustrating process that requires two people to verify the brake lights are functioning. Yet the updated application solves this exact problem for drivers who tow heavy loads. Now you can stand behind your trailer and trigger a full diagnostic light sequence directly from your mobile device. Finally you can confirm everything is working normally before getting on the highway.
