Tesla began rolling out software version 2026.20.3 to an initial wave of vehicles this week, and the update continues to reach more drivers over time. It brings several fresh features to owners who get the download early. For instance, the company added parental controls for in-car entertainment apps, and drivers gain dashcam clip encryption in certain countries to protect their privacy. The update brings the Grok AI assistant to more regions like India and Taiwan.

Most vehicles getting the patch had an earlier 2026.20 build installed. It acts as a refinement release that packs extra features next to regular fixes.

Parental controls for entertainment apps

Owners can restrict access to certain apps right from the main screen. For example, you can block the Browser, Theater, and Arcade from loading when you want. The setup process happens entirely in the car menu, and you go to Controls, tap Safety, and pick Parental Controls. The car must be in Park to change these settings. Then the blocked apps turn gray on the display so kids cannot open them.

Dashcam video encryption for better privacy

Tesla added a new privacy layer for video recordings in select markets. Now Dashcam and Sentry Mode clips save in an encrypted format on the USB drive, and only the vehicle that recorded the video can view the footage. This protects your privacy if someone takes the flash drive from the glovebox. You can decrypt the files right inside the car when you tap the lock icon in the Dashcam app. Or you can log into dashcam.tesla.com on a computer to watch them there instead. Still, you can turn off the feature entirely if you prefer plain files. You just go to Vehicle, tap Safety, and select Encrypt Dashcam Recordings to disable it.

Grok assistant reaches new markets

The company pushed its Grok AI tool to more international markets with this update. Now drivers in Taiwan, the Philippines, India, Colombia, Thailand, and Singapore have access to it. You can talk to Grok by holding the steering wheel voice button. The assistant answers questions and handles navigation requests for the driver. Yet it remains in beta form right now, and it does not control vehicle hardware like wipers or lights.

Service mode tools and security fixes

The release features a new Forward Camera Cleaning Panel in Service Mode. Technicians use this tool to check the camera view on the windshield, and it helps them confirm the glass is clean for the self-driving system. The update contains unnamed security improvements for the vehicle software.
