Tesla Model 3 and Model Y receive new U.S. specification updates

Tesla has updated the Model 3 sold in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Mexico with a larger 16-inch center touchscreen across the full lineup. The company has made several other changes at the same time, including quicker acceleration for the Model 3 Premium AWD, more range for the Model 3 Performance, a black headliner, higher output, and a darker finish for the optional 19-inch Nova wheels.

Tesla has updated the Model Y Premium AWD in the United States too, cutting its listed 0-60 mph time from 4.6 seconds to 4.3 seconds.

Model 3 Premium AWD gets quicker

The Model 3 Premium AWD now reaches 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, down from 4.2 seconds. Its EPA-estimated range remains 346 miles. Tesla has not detailed the hardware or software changes behind the quicker acceleration.

Model 3 Performance gets more range

The Model 3 Performance now carries an EPA-estimated range of 316 miles, up from 309 miles. Peak output rises to 528 horsepower from about 510 hp, though the listed 0-60 mph time remains 2.9 seconds. Top speed stays at 163 mph.

Tesla has added an all-black headliner to the Performance cabin.

Larger screen comes to every Model 3

Every Model 3 sold in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Mexico now gets a 16-inch center touchscreen, replacing the previous 15.4-inch display. The change applies across the lineup rather than being limited to higher trims.

Nova wheels get a darker finish

Tesla has changed the optional 19-inch Nova wheels from a silver finish to grey. The darker look is similar to the Dark Nova wheels introduced on updated Model 3 vehicles in some overseas markets.

The black-and-white interior remains available on the North American Model 3. Tesla has introduced a Zen Grey interior on some Shanghai-built Model 3 vehicles, but that option has not been announced for the United States, Puerto Rico, or Mexico. Vehicle-to-load capability has not been announced for the North American Model 3 either.

Model Y Premium AWD drops to 4.3 seconds

Tesla has cut the Model Y Premium AWD’s 0-60 mph time in the United States from 4.6 seconds to 4.3 seconds. The company has not provided a detailed technical explanation for the improvement.
