Tesla’s Full Self-Driving Supervised system has received approval for use in Czechia after the country’s Transport Ministry recognised a provisional approval issued by the Dutch vehicle authority RDW. Tesla Europe said the rollout will begin soon.
Czech ministry accepts RDW approval
The Czech Transport Ministry said it had recognised the RDW approval under Article 39 of EU Regulation 2018/858. The decision allows Tesla FSD Supervised to operate on Czech public roads under the conditions attached to the Dutch approval.
The ministry said its review involved technical work, consultation with experts and contact with other EU member states. Tesla drivers in Czechia will still need to wait for Tesla to activate the feature through a software update.
Tesla Europe wrote on X: “FSD Supervised now approved in Czechia, Rollout will begin soon.” The company has not published a local launch schedule, pricing update or eligibility list for Czech owners.

FSD Supervised is a Level 2 driver-assistance system under the SAE classification. It can handle steering, acceleration and braking in supported situations, but the driver must keep attention on the road and take control when needed.
The Czech ministry said responsibility remains with the person in the driver’s seat. Tesla’s system is not classified as autonomous driving under Czech law, and drivers cannot treat it as a vehicle that drives itself.
Seventh EU country to clear FSD
Czechia becomes the seventh EU member state to accept FSD Supervised for public-road use. The Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, Estonia, Lithuania and Slovenia had already cleared the system under related national decisions.
The Dutch approval has become the basis for Tesla’s current European expansion. RDW granted Tesla its provisional approval in April, and other countries have reviewed the Dutch regulator’s findings before making their own decisions.
Still, approval is not uniform across the European Union. Tesla must secure broader support from member states before FSD Supervised can receive a wider EU approval that applies across the bloc.
EU vote remains ahead
The next major step is expected at a meeting of the EU Technical Committee on Motor Vehicles, known as the TCMV, in early October. Officials will review the regulatory route for Tesla’s system and the evidence submitted through the Dutch approval process.
A wider EU approval requires support from at least 15 of the 27 member states. Those countries must represent at least 65% of the EU population under the bloc’s qualified-majority voting rules.
Czechia’s approval adds another country to Tesla’s side, but it does not settle the wider process. Major markets such as Germany and France have yet to grant national clearance, and their position could affect the final result.
Prague changed its earlier position
The Czech decision comes after the ministry took a more cautious public stance in June. At that time, officials said the RDW decision was provisional and valid in the Netherlands, and Czechia would wait for further EU coordination before acting.
The ministry said an independent Czech approval process would require its own technical review, testing and public funding. It said it did not want to take full responsibility for a separate national decision without further European coordination.
After that statement, Tesla supporters and FSD tracking groups challenged the ministry’s claim that fewer than 300 relevant Tesla vehicles were in the country. They cited Czech vehicle registration data indicating that the potential fleet could be much larger.
The ministry has now accepted the RDW approval after further assessment and coordination. Its latest announcement still stresses that the approval is provisional and that drivers remain legally responsible for their vehicle.
Tesla has published European safety data in support of FSD Supervised. The company said the system was more than 4.1 times less likely to be involved in a crash than manual driving across 102 million kilometres in approved EU countries during 2025.
Tesla also said the system completed about 98% of more than 230,000 tests covering road types, traffic conditions and weather scenarios. The figures come from Tesla’s own FSD Supervised dashboard and have not been released as an independent regulator-led safety study.
