Ford CEO Jim Farley has shared his enthusiasm for Xiaomi’s electric vehicle after spending six months behind the wheel of the SU7. During an interview on the Fully Charged podcast with Robert Llewellyn, Farley revealed that he had imported an SU7 from Shanghai to Chicago for extended testing.

“I don’t want to give it up,” Farley admitted, praising the Chinese automaker’s first venture into the automotive world.

The conversation touched on the contrast between Xiaomi’s successful EV launch and Apple’s unrealized car project. Farley noted, “Everyone’s talking about the Apple car, but the Xiaomi car, which now exists and is fantastic…they’re selling 10,000 or 20,000 a month and sold out for six months. That is an industry juggernaut and a consumer brand that is much stronger than car companies.”

The SU7’s market success has been remarkable, with Xiaomi receiving an impressive 88,898 orders within just 24 hours of its unveiling. The company has had to repeatedly adjust its production capacity to meet the overwhelming demand in the Chinese market.

The executive’s praise for a competitor’s vehicle marks an unusual but significant moment in the automotive industry, highlighting the growing influence of Chinese tech companies in the global EV market.
