Tesla confirmed plans for more affordable models are still set for early 2025 in its Q4 2024 update.

“Plans for new vehicles, including more affordable models, remain on track for start of production in the first half of 2025”

Tesla stated.

These models will use parts of Tesla’s next-gen and current platforms. They’ll also be made on the same lines as Tesla’s current vehicles.

Why This Approach?

Tesla explained its strategy in the update:

“This approach will result in achieving less cost reduction than previously expected but enables us to prudently grow our vehicle volumes in a more capex-efficient manner during uncertain times.”

“This should help us fully utilize our current expected maximum capacity of close to three million vehicles, enabling more than 60% growth over 2024 production before investing in new manufacturing lines.”

What to Expect

Tesla might not launch completely new cheaper models. Instead, it could update its current models to make them more affordable.

For example, they could keep selling older versions of the Model Y or Model 3, but at lower prices compared to the newer versions. It’s a simpler move, but it could still make a big difference for buyers.

People are excited about the idea of a new, cheaper Tesla. But instead of launching a completely new car, Tesla might just focus on making its current models more affordable.
