Tesla Slashes U.S. Model Y Prices Ahead of Refresh Launch

Tesla is gearing up to launch the refreshed Model Y in North America, and the company is clearing out its inventory of legacy models with some hefty discounts.

If you’ve been eyeing a Model Y, now might be the perfect time to grab one at a reduced price.

Big Discounts on Legacy Model Y Units

Tesla rolled out price cuts of up to $6,330 on inventory Model Y units in the U.S. and Canada this week.

These discounts are a clear sign that Tesla is making room for the updated Model Y, which has already debuted in Asia-Pacific and European markets earlier this month.

At the time of writing, we found Model Y units with discounts ranging from $460 to $6,330, with the Long Range AWD trim seeing the biggest price drops.

Some Long Range AWD units are now starting at $44,330 before incentives, even with premium add-ons like Quicksilver or Ultra Red paint and induction wheels.

For the Performance trim, a few upgraded units are available with discounts as high as $6330, bringing the price down to $46,160 before credits.

When you factor in the $7500 federal EV tax credit some long-range AWD models drop to as low as $36,930, while the RWD configuration can go as low as $37,040 which is a steal for a fully loaded Tesla.

Why the Discounts?

Tesla has a pretty predictable strategy when it comes to rolling out new models: they drop prices on the older versions to clear out inventory before the shiny new one arrives.

We saw this happen with the Model 3 in the U.S. back in 2023 and 2024, and now it looks like they’re doing the same thing with the Model Y.

Even in China, Tesla has been offering discounts on the older Model Y even after the refreshed version hit the market.

If you’ve been thinking about buying a Tesla, these discounts are a fantastic opportunity.

You can snag a fully loaded Model Y at a much lower price before the updated version rolls in.

But here’s the catch, the $7,500 federal EV tax credit might not stick around much longer, especially with potential policy changes on the horizon.

What’s New in the Refreshed Model Y?

The updated Model Y, which has already rolled out in other parts of the world, brings some pretty cool upgrades.

Spotted as early as mid-2024, the refreshed model includes:

  • Lightbars: Gone are the traditional headlights and taillights. The new Model Y features sleek lightbars on both the front and rear bumpers, giving it a more futuristic look.
  • Front-Facing Camera: A new camera offers a wider field of view, enhancing features like Autopilot, Actually Smart Summon, and Supervised Full Self-Driving (FSD).

While Tesla hasn’t officially announced a launch date for the refreshed Model Y in North America, the recent discounts suggest it could happen as soon as this month.

Should You Buy Now?

If you’ve been thinking about getting a Tesla Model Y, these discounts are seriously tempting.

Look, the legacy Model Y might be the “older” version, but let’s not forget, it’s still a killer car.

And with prices slashed this much, you’re basically getting a top-tier Tesla without the top-tier price tag. It’s a win-win if you’re okay with not having the latest bells and whistles.

So, what’s the play here? Are you grabbing one of these discounted Model Ys while they’re still around, or are you holding out for the refreshed version?
