Tesla is expected to introduce a voice assistant based on xAI’s Grok language model. There’s no official release date yet, but the recent launch of a voice mode for Grok suggests it could be coming soon.

Grok 3, the latest version of xAI’s model, was released last month. Just days later, a voice feature was added, allowing users to interact with it through speech. In January, Elon Musk confirmed that Tesla vehicles would soon integrate Grok as a voice assistant. He first mentioned the idea in November 2023.

Musk hasn’t given an exact timeline, saying only that the feature is “coming soon.”

“Grok in Teslas is coming soon,”

Musk said.

“So you will just be able to talk to your Tesla and ask for anything.”

The assistant will let drivers talk to their car, which will respond and make necessary adjustments. Right now, Grok 3 and its voice mode are only available to those with a Premium Plus account on X, which costs $40 per month.

In January, xAI launched a standalone Grok app for Apple devices, followed by an Android version in February. Tesla has hinted at upcoming voice functionality in past updates.

In December, Tesla updated its system so vehicles would respond with “Hello” instead of “command not understood” when greeted. This change followed an earlier update in May, which added a wake word feature to Tesla vehicles.

A full voice assistant powered by Grok could be the next step. With past updates pointing in this direction, the feature may not be far off.
