A recent survey conducted by Accenture has uncovered some promising trends for the future of electric vehicles (EVs).

The survey polled 6,000 car buyers across the United States, Italy, Germany, France, China, and Japan, and the results point to growing mainstream adoption of EVs in the coming decade.

Perhaps most significantly, the survey found that 57% of drivers expect to adopt an EV within the next 10 years.

Even more striking, 43% of current non-EV drivers are considering an EV for their next vehicle purchase.

This suggests that EVs are starting to appeal to a broader segment of the market beyond the early adopters.

The survey also revealed that reliability, safety, and price are the top purchase criteria for the majority of respondents, at 80%.

This indicates that as automakers continue to improve EV offerings in these areas, they will be well-positioned to attract a wider range of consumers.

Accenture also identified five distinct “mindsonas,” or customer segments, for the EV market:

  1. The “Strategist” – Drivers already inclined towards high-end EVs (20% of respondents)
  2. The “Individualist” – Younger drivers who prefer EVs for their technology (25%)
  3. The “Carer” – Environmentally-conscious drivers who view cars as practical tools (21%)
  4. The “Conservative” – Drivers who value reliability and remain hesitant about EVs (17%)
  5. The “Frugal” – Drivers who prioritize price above all else (17%)

Automakers have so far focused on appealing to the “Strategist” and “Individualist” segments.

However, to drive mainstream EV adoption, the report suggests they will need to cater to the needs of the “Carer,” “Conservative,” and “Frugal” segments as well – offering EVs that deliver on reliability, safety, and affordability.

Overall, the survey paints a promising picture for the future of electric vehicles.

With over half of drivers expected to go electric in the next decade, and a sizeable portion of conventional car owners considering the switch, the automotive industry appears poised for a significant transition towards sustainable mobility.
