Tesla adds Supercharger arrival forecasts to Google Maps

Tesla is bringing a new charging feature to cars with built-in Google Maps, and the company announced drivers can now see predicted Supercharger availability before they reach a station. The official account described the update as “forecasted stall availability” for compatible electric vehicles globally. Users get an option to opt in to share data. And doing this helps the system estimate how many stalls will be open when a car pulls in.

How the arrival predictions function

Google Maps already displayed live stall counts and charging speeds for EV drivers. Now the application adds a forecast for the exact time of arrival, so users can plan ahead. When a person routes to a Tesla station, the map details the current open plugs along with an expected count for later. Drivers need to turn on data sharing to get these estimates, and this lets Tesla calculate future traffic at each location. The system processes routing information alongside historical station usage to predict queue lengths accurately.

Expanding access for other vehicles

This update helps owners of other electric cars that rely on Google Maps for navigation. Some auto brands build their dashboard software entirely on this platform. Before this release, non-Tesla drivers lacked accurate arrival data for the Supercharger network, leaving them guessing about wait times. But now they can plan long trips with better information, and this cuts down on unexpected delays at busy stops. As more automakers adopt Tesla’s charging connector, accurate station data becomes highly useful for road trips.

The forecasting tool asks users for permission to share trip data directly with Tesla. Every car that opts in gives the network a clearer picture of incoming traffic, so the system can update its estimates for everyone else on the road. Also, the network can manage congestion much better when it knows exactly how many vehicles are approaching a specific location.
