Tesla recalls 6,197 Cybertrucks for faulty light bar adhesive

Tesla is recalling 6,197 Cybertrucks because of a problem with the off-road light bar. The wrong adhesive was used during installation that affects about 10% of all Cybertrucks built so far. According to NHTSA documentation, technicians “inadvertently attached” the light bar to the windshield using an incorrect surface primer, causing the adhesive bond to weaken over time.

Tesla identified the issue with the light bar’s adhesion to glass in February 2025 and spent months investigating the problem. In October, the company performed chemical testing as part of an engineering study and determined that BetaPrime primer was the root cause, not because of quality issues with the primer itself, but because it was simply the wrong adhesive for this specific application.

Tesla says the light bar isn’t installed on every Cybertruck. It isn’t listed as an option in the Tesla shop either. Owners could only get it by asking the service department to add the accessory. Since the light bar can be installed only at Tesla service centers, all affected units will need to be checked there.

What owners should look for

Drivers may hear a noise from the roof area if the adhesive begins to fail and some owners may notice the light bar feels loose, or they can see a gap between the light bar and windshield. However, not everyone will see symptoms. So Tesla recommends getting the accessory checked as soon as possible.

If service finds the light bar is not attached well or shows any damage, they will remove it and put on a new one. This time, they will use both tape and a mechanical bracket (bolting it down) to make it more secure. If the light bar looks fine but needs better attachment, service will add the mechanical bracket without removing the part. Tesla will do the repair for free.

Affected owners should wait for a recall letter. These are planned for mailing in December 2025. If you have concerns or are noticing a problem, contact Tesla service to get the accessory checked before then.

Tesla stopped all new installations of the off-road light bar until it solves the issue. People with scheduled installs are being told their appointments are canceled for now. Tesla will reach out when installs resume.

This marks the tenth recall for the Cybertruck since deliveries began in late 2023, and the second in October 2025 alone.
