Tesla has rolled out a monthly subscription for its Extended Service Agreement (ESA) in the U.S. This is the first time Tesla has offered extended vehicle coverage through a monthly payment plan. It’s for people who want to keep their coverage going after the standard factory warranty ends.

Monthly prices and coverage period

The ESA is open to all main Tesla models. Here’s what each costs per month:

  • Model 3: $50
  • Model Y: $60
  • Model S: $125
  • Model X: $150

This subscription adds up to 4 more years of coverage, on top of the regular 4-year factory warranty. The limit is 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Before this, the ESA only offered 2 extra years or 25,000 more miles, up to a max of 75,000 miles.

What’s included and what’s not

The plan covers repair or replacement of most parts made or supplied by Tesla that fail during the coverage time. Each service visit has a $100 deductible.

Some things aren’t covered. These include:

  • The 12V battery
  • High-voltage battery and drive unit
  • Maintenance parts and body repairs
  • Damage from accidents or unauthorized changes
  • Normal wear and tear

Who can get it and how

Only owners whose vehicles are still under Tesla’s basic warranty can sign up. Tesla will send out notices starting three months before that warranty ends. Right now, leased vehicles can’t be enrolled. But Tesla says people who buy their cars after the lease ends will be able to sign up by late 2025. Tesla also plans to make this available for used cars with titles soon.

How to subscribe

You can sign up using the Tesla app. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Tesla app.
  2. Tap ‘Upgrades’, then go to ‘Service Plans’ and choose ‘Extended Service Agreement’.
  3. Check the monthly fee and what’s covered.
  4. Tap ‘Subscribe’ and enter your payment info.

This plan is available for Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y. Cybertruck will be added soon.
