Tesla Reveals New Features for the Updated Model Y “Juniper”

Tesla has revealed new features for the updated Model Y “Juniper.”

Nathan Di Giusto, head of engineering for the Model 3/Y platform, and Emmanuel Lamacchia, the Model Y program manager, spoke with Tesla Owners Silicon Valley about the changes.

Design Updates

One of the biggest design updates is the removal of the ‘T’ logo.

The U.S. model was always intended to have a blank front, but the Chinese market required the badge.

Tesla also redesigned the rear power seats with an internally developed gearbox.

After removing the turn signal stalk in previous models, the company decided to bring it back based on customer feedback.

Drivers who prefer buttons will still have that option. Tesla is also planning to introduce new paint colors in North America, something other markets have already seen.

Efficiency Improvements

Efficiency was another major focus. Engineers reduced drag from the brake calipers to improve range.

The glass roof now has a double silver coating, helping with thermal performance and making the cabin quieter.

Carpeted cupholders, trunk lids, and side trim also help reduce interior noise.

Instead of increasing battery size to extend range, Tesla kept the current battery to maintain affordability.

The company made small adjustments, like modifying interior lighting and lowering HVAC fan speeds, to improve efficiency wherever possible.

The updated Model Y will have an EPA range increase beyond the estimated 2.8 percent boost.

Comfort Upgrades

Comfort has been improved with quieter door latches and trunk lids. Interior materials are now wrapped to absorb sound, and the rear glass is laminated for better noise reduction.

Tesla also added sensors that can detect people inside the vehicle, including their heartbeats and breathing patterns.

Pricing and Availability

Deliveries for the new Model Y begin in March. It will launch with a single trim, the “Launch Edition,” priced at $59,990 before incentives.
