Extended Duration and Vehicle Compatibility

Tesla has enhanced its Light Show feature with recent updates to its GitHub repository.

The most notable enhancement is the extended Light Show duration, now allowing up to four hours of sequences.

Cybertruck-Specific Enhancements

Advanced Light Bar Control

The Cybertruck receives particular attention in this update with sophisticated control options for its exterior lighting elements:

The front light bar features individual control of 60 LED units, while the rear light bar offers control of 52 separate LED elements.

While the color options remain fixed—white for the front and red for the rear—creators can now adjust brightness levels for each LED independently.

This allows for sophisticated animation effects reminiscent of Knight Rider-style sequences, similar to those seen on Rivian vehicles.

Off-Road Light Bar Integration

For Foundation Series Cybertruck owners, the off-road light bar functionality has been enhanced to support six distinct segments:

  • Two side-facing ditch lights
  • Four forward-facing lights

While individual LED control isn’t available for these segments, users can adjust brightness levels for each section independently.

This feature will be compatible with non-Foundation Series vehicles once the light bar becomes available in the Tesla shop later this year.

Interior Lighting Improvements

Center Display Innovation

The update brings full RGB color control to the center display, allowing it to serve as an interior lighting element visible from outside the vehicle.

This feature is compatible with all Light Show-enabled vehicles, including legacy Model S and Model X variants.

Enhanced Ambient Lighting

The system supports controlled ambient lighting for the Cybertruck and new Model 3, divided into five distinct RGB-controllable segments:

  • Center front
  • Left front
  • Right front
  • Left rear
  • Right rear

Future Implementation

While these changes have been committed to Tesla’s Light Show GitHub repository, the timing of their availability to vehicle owners remains uncertain.

The features may require future software updates before becoming accessible.

Model Y Juniper Integration

The upcoming Model Y Juniper redesign is expected to incorporate front and rear light bars.

This suggests that these enhanced lighting capabilities could extend to the Juniper model.

Broader Impact

These developments greatly enhance the creative options for Light Show designers, especially with individual LED control and RGB color options.

Although the holiday season has ended, these features are expected to create exciting light displays for celebrations and events year-round.

These improvements were initially referenced in the Holiday update and require software version 2024.44.25 or higher for activation of supported features.
