Tesla has rolled out an enhanced navigation feature in Europe that displays real-time availability of third-party charging stations, making it easier for drivers to plan their charging stops more efficiently.
The new feature shows live availability status of compatible third-party charging stations directly within Tesla’s navigation system. The implementation displays specific information such as “1 of 2 available” for each supported location.
This functionality is currently limited to charging stations that are part of Tesla’s Qualified Third-Party Charger Program, launched in 2022. To qualify for this program, charging stations must meet several criteria:
- Include at least one Tesla-compatible connector
- Maintain a 90% or higher charge success rate
- Record Tesla vehicle usage at minimum every four days
While not as sophisticated as Tesla’s native Supercharger routing, which automatically suggests optimal charging stops based on availability, drivers can access this information by tapping on specific charger locations within the map interface to view both availability and maximum charging speeds.
This update aligns with Tesla’s broader strategy to expand charging accessibility.
The company recently opened its entire Supercharger network to non-Tesla vehicles in Sweden, following a similar initiative in the Netherlands in 2022.
Additionally, Tesla is currently offering one year of free Supercharging for new Model Y purchases in Europe, with deliveries scheduled through the end of 2024.
