Tesla has announced that owners can now transfer their Full Self-Driving (FSD) capability from existing vehicles to the new Cybertruck, marking a significant expansion of the company’s FSD transfer program. This option will be available through the end of the year.
Previously, while owners could transfer FSD between Tesla’s traditional models (Model S, 3, X, and Y), Cybertruck buyers would have had to purchase the $8,000 FSD package separately, even if they already owned it on another Tesla vehicle. This policy had been particularly controversial given that some owners had paid up to $15,000 for FSD on their existing vehicles.
The company began offering limited-time FSD transfer windows last year, responding to customer feedback about the financial burden of repurchasing the software for each new Tesla vehicle. This latest policy change marks the first time the transfer option has been extended to include the Cybertruck.
This move represents a significant shift from Tesla’s earlier stance, where CEO Elon Musk had maintained that FSD’s current price was a fraction of its future value. The company has now run several transfer windows this year alone, demonstrating increased flexibility in their approach to FSD ownership.
