Multiple Tesla owners are reporting an unexpected extension to their Full Self-Driving (Supervised) free trial periods. According to recent social media posts, Tesla is extending trials by an additional 30 days, with the offer extending to both trial users and monthly FSD subscribers.

The extension comes at a strategic time for Tesla, following their Q3 2024 earnings call which emphasized FSD’s crucial role in the company’s future plans. With upcoming vehicles like the Cybercab and Robovan being designed around FSD capabilities, Tesla appears focused on demonstrating the system’s value to its customer base.

Several Tesla owners have shared notifications from the company on X (formerly Twitter), confirming their “30-day complimentary trial for Full Self-Driving (Supervised)” has been extended. The messages also indicate that current FSD subscribers will receive an additional 30 days of service at no cost.

While Tesla hasn’t officially explained the reasoning behind this extension, it may be linked to anticipated developments in the FSD program. In September, Tesla’s AI team announced plans to release FSD V13 in October, suggesting the extended trials could be timed to coincide with this major update.

The AI team’s track record for meeting deadlines has been notably strong, unlike some of Tesla’s other timeline promises. This was demonstrated in September when they successfully delivered both the Cybertruck’s FSD capabilities and the Actually Smart Summon (A.S.S.) feature ahead of schedule. Given this recent history of timely deliveries, the arrival of FSD V13 could indeed be imminent.

The extension appears to be part of Tesla’s broader strategy to increase FSD adoption and showcase its capabilities to a wider audience, particularly as the company positions autonomous driving technology at the center of its future product lineup.
