Tesla fleet gets energy-saving upgrade for Smart Summon

Tesla fixed a major battery drain issue with its Smart Summon feature. Owners were losing battery charge overnight when Summon Standby stayed active. The new software update applies energy-saving steps, reducing unnecessary battery use without cutting off needed features.

The Smart Summon option lets people move their Tesla remotely. This tool uses Summon Standby, which keeps the Full Self-Driving computer ready for fast connection. But staying in this mode causes batteries to drop by 2-10% from a full charge overnight. Reports from drivers say they saw up to 5-6% lost after just one night if they left Summon Standby on. Losing this much over several days is a problem, especially when parked away from chargers, like at an airport.

Tesla’s data fixes

Tesla released its 2025.32 software with two set rules to cut battery drain:

  • Summon Standby now turns off automatically from midnight to 6 AM every night. Tesla figured out this is when drivers almost never use the feature. Turning it off saves energy. Nobody can turn this schedule off manually, so all cars get the benefit.
  • After a car sits parked for 24 hours, Summon Standby shuts off until the vehicle is driven again. This helps people on vacation or anyone not using their car daily. It’s similar to Tesla’s Low Power Mode.

People will notice Smart Summon takes a few extra seconds to respond if they try using it during the new pause periods.

Extra energy options

Alongside these Summon changes, a new Low Power Mode lets drivers turn off several higher-drain systems, like Sentry, Summon Standby, Cabin Overheat Protection, with one switch. This cuts down phantom drain from all these sources.

Tesla now gives Smart Summon access to Enhanced Autopilot users, not only Full Self-Driving subscribers.

Since September 2024, Smart Summon now includes live camera feeds from different vehicle views, better obstacle dodging, improved moves in tight spots, custom sounds, and user controls. Over-the-air updates keep bringing new improvements, like more reliable road recognition, backup camera fixes, and fewer false stops.

With this awesome update, Owners no longer need to remember to turn off Summon Standby during long parking times; the car does it itself. The move solved a headache for many, with most feedback online now positive.

Tesla used data on actual driver habits to design these fixes. By only running Standby when drivers are likely to use it, battery waste drops, but functions stay intact.
