Tesla put a new AC external power adapter in its China shop for the Model Y L. This adapter lets the car provide electricity to small appliances or devices when you need it. Now, shoppers pay 599 RMB, around $85. Some early buyers get it free if their car did not come with one.

The Model Y L can run items like camping equipment, laptops, or small kitchen gear. The adapter supplies up to 2,200 watts at 220 volts and 10 amps. You can use it down to -30°C and up to 50°C. It has an IP44 splash protection rating, so it won’t let in water splashes or most dust. The feature switches off if your battery drops below 10%.
Tesla China also released a video about the external power supply (V2L) for the Model Y L.

Free offer for early owners
Some early Model Y L owners get this adapter at no cost until February 28. Tesla says, “Your Tesla account is eligible for a free Model Y L dedicated AC external power adapter. Please log in to the online store to add the adapter to your cart. Once the system verifies it correctly, the price will automatically change to 0 yuan before placing the order. We will send it to you via express delivery subsequently… This free qualification is only for the first owner of the Model Y L who did not receive an AC external power adapter at pickup, valid until February 28, 2026. Failure to place an order upon expiration will be considered as a waiver of eligibility. If there is a temporary shortage of goods, please be patient and we will reschedule the replenishment by the end of January 2026.”

Tesla rolled out a software update in late October 2025 to give the Model Y L this new V2L feature. Other changes included a lower limit for Dog Mode and faster entertainment profile switching. Owners just need the official adapter to use external power.
Other automakers like BYD, Hyundai, and Kia already brought vehicle-to-load to their electric cars. Most of them can run between 2.2kW and 3.6kW for small equipment like fridges or heaters. Tesla’s Model Y L matches the lower end but now gives customers the same basic function.
