Tesla prepares in-app digital certificates for high-voltage battery repairs

Tesla is preparing a new in-app certificate for repaired or replaced high-voltage batteries, that could give used EV buyers a clearer look at a car’s battery history. The feature appears in Tesla app code and would tie battery work to the vehicle’s service record, making the information easier to keep and share.

Official HV battery certifications

The new feature centers on a digital record for major battery service. Tesla app strings point to a “Certification of Repaired HV Battery,” which would document a battery repair or replacement through an official record inside the vehicle’s profile. That matters for owners who want proof that the work was done and for buyers who want something more reliable than a seller’s word.

Service history integration

The battery certificate would sit inside Tesla’s Service History area, so it would not be buried in email or saved as a loose file. Strings tied to the feature, including viewRepairedBatteryCert and repairedBatteryCertId, point to a record that stays linked to the car itself. That gives the document a permanent place in the app instead of leaving owners to track it down later.

The code also points to an export option. A string named service_history_repaired_battery_cert_download_fail implies the user will be able to download the certificate directly to a phone, most likely as a PDF. That would make it easier to share during a sale or while talking to a buyer, insurer, or shop.

This is a useful step for long-term ownership. Battery work is one of the biggest concerns in the used EV market, and a factory-backed record can help remove doubt around a car’s past. It gives owners a clean way to prove that the pack was serviced by Tesla and logged in the company’s own system.

Why used buyers care

Used EV shoppers often ask the same question first. Has the battery been repaired, replaced, or left alone. Tesla’s new certificate could answer that in a simple way, and that may help buyers feel better about the car they are looking at. It may also help sellers who have a strong service record and want that record to count at resale.

The company has been putting more repair data into the app, and this new record would add one of the most important service items a Tesla owner can have. Battery health is a key part of value, and a clear service record can change how a car is priced on the private market.

The feature was found by developer and Tesla app researcher Tesla App Updates.

However, Tesla has not said when the feature will reach all users. Still, the app code points to active work, and that is often the first sign of a coming release. If Tesla rolls it out widely, the certificate could become a simple but useful tool for anyone buying or selling a used Tesla and for owners who want clean proof of battery service.
