Tesla CEO Elon Musk talks about what’s next for Full Self-Driving (FSD). Musk makes it clear, the next major update, FSD v14.3, could solve the last big challenge with self-driving cars.
FSD v14.2 just reached early customers in November 2025. The update is the latest in a series that are meant to fix old problems and add new features.
Latest FSD fixes big braking problem
Tesla FSD v14.2 targets an issue called “brake stabbing.” This happened when the car would stop too quickly in intersections, especially at four-way stops. The result often felt abrupt. Owners said this would make driving feel rough, and it sometimes worried people driving nearby. With v14.2, most testers say that this problem no longer exists.
New features in this update
There are plenty of upgrades in v14.2. Neural network improvements help the car see trucks, bikes, people, and obstacles more accurately. The upgraded vision system uses higher detailed pictures from cameras.
Also, Tesla now keeps stats on how much of your drive uses FSD compared to manual driving. You can check these stats in the car’s Autopilot settings. Although, some tests show stats sometimes aren’t accurate. For instance, even if the trip was interrupted many times, the car may still show “100%” self-driving for the trip.
Arrival Options are better. After picking a destination, drivers can choose where the car parks (on the curb, in a garage, in a lot or driveway) This helps when pulling up to places with busy streets or complicated parking areas. You can pick your parking style before you drive.
Speed profiles get more options too. Drivers can pick slow, normal, or more aggressive speeds (but always within rules) before starting FSD. Safety officials are watching how these profiles affect driving.
Driver monitoring is easing
FSD used to be strict about watching drivers. If a person looked away or touched the controls too much, the car could give warnings. Musk wants to relax these rules bit by bit. Maybe soon drivers can text during trips, but only once safety numbers prove FSD is ready.
For now, new laws like the one in Pennsylvania make texting illegal even with FSD engaged, but Tesla seems focused on letting drivers feel more comfortable as the cars get better.
Musk says the next update, v14.3, is “where the last big piece of the puzzle finally lands.” The community thinks it will help FSD remember what’s happening for longer stretches and stop repeating failed moves.

Musk himself said it should help cars not get stuck trying to exit parking lots or repeat mistakes over and over.
Another feature people expect is “Banish.” It’s supposed to let a car drop off a rider, then park itself somewhere nearby. Musk teased this as important for future robotaxi projects, but it hasn’t yet appeared for public use.
Musk talks about FSD “feeling sentient.” He’s not saying the car thinks for itself, but he wants driving to feel human-like. Scientists and engineers made v14.2 with ten times more neural network parameters than before. With more “brain power,” the car learns and reacts fast, like a person does in traffic.
Release plans
Tesla’s software team rolls out v14.2 first to “Early Access” drivers. Tesla says AI4 is needed for the bigger, smarter networks. Older cars, which most Tesla owners have, will stay on older versions for now, but a “Lite” version of FSD 14 is promised later, probably mid-2026.
Tesla is speeding up FSD improvements. In October, Musk predicted v14.2 in “a few weeks,” then v14.3 a few weeks after that. Signs point to FSD v14.3 rolling out by the end of 2025, maybe tied to Tesla’s holiday software update.
Tesla likes to say its FSD cars drive millions of miles between big crashes. The company shared numbers showing FSD had major crashes only every 5 million miles, better than the national average.
How the technology works
FSD v14 uses neural networks more than ever. These computer brains now have over 100 million parameters. More parameters let the car learn quickly, see details others can’t, and react in tough situations. The system doesn’t run every “brain” all the time, just parts that matter right then, so it doesn’t overload the computer.
Video quality matters. With better camera feeds, the system sees clearly day or night. All of this goes together so the car makes decisions like a careful and attentive human driver.
Tesla is moving fast on FSD. The latest v14.2 update fixes old problems, especially abrupt braking and adds new features. v14.3, expected soon, could finally close the gap between human and computer driving. Most Tesla owners can’t use the full update yet unless they have the latest hardware, but a lighter version should arrive in 2026.
