Tesla Teases New 7-Passenger Option for Model Y

Tesla sent out a recent email suggesting that the Model Y might soon offer seating for up to seven people. The message said the vehicle has

“long range, seating for up to seven and enough room for everyone’s gear.”

This strongly hints that Tesla is planning to bring back the third-row option that was removed during the 2025 update.

History of the 7-Seat Model Y

The Model Y first got a seven-seat version in 2021. The third row had forward-facing seats and could fold flat. It wasn’t very spacious and worked better for kids than adults. While it stayed available in North America for some time, it was later removed from other markets like Europe and China.

New Features Could Improve Comfort

The updated Model Y now includes power-reclining second-row seats. These are controlled through the central touchscreen. It’s possible that Tesla will bring similar controls to the third row in the upcoming version, but that hasn’t been confirmed.
