Tesla is finally giving Android users something to cheer about. After years of Apple users enjoying priority access to new features, Tesla is rolling out upgrades to make the Android experience just as good.
A Long Time Coming
For a while now, iPhone users have had the upper hand when it comes to Tesla’s app features.
Android users, on the other hand, have often had to wait for updates. But that’s starting to change.
Back in September, Tesla hinted at improving Android compatibility, and now the company is delivering on that promise with some exciting upgrades.
What’s New for Android Users?
Tesla is adding ultra-wideband (UWB) support to Android devices, a move that will significantly enhance the app’s functionality.
While these features aren’t live yet, they’re on the way and promise to make the Android experience much smoother.
Phone Key Gets an Upgrade
The Phone Key is getting a major upgrade. Thanks to UWB support, Android devices will now detect your car’s location and distance more accurately.
This makes the Phone Key more reliable and precise, giving Android users a better experience.
Hands-Free Trunk Opening
Another cool feature is Automatic Frunk and Trunk Opening. With UWB upgrades, Android users can open their trunk by standing behind the car for two seconds.
The car will sense the phone’s position and pop the trunk open automatically.
Which Vehicles Are Compatible?
These new features will work with:
- 2024 Tesla Model 3 and newer
- 2021 Tesla Model S and newer
- 2021 Tesla Model X and newer
- Tesla Cybertruck
What’s Next?
These updates are still rolling out, but they’re a big step forward for Android users.
Tesla’s move to improve Android support shows the company is listening to its customers and working to make the experience more inclusive.
