SpaceXAI released its Grok Bot software in beta earlier this month, giving subscribers dedicated cloud computers that run multi-step digital chores around the clock. The release immediately ignited discussions across the automotive community about putting similar autonomous workers inside Tesla electric vehicles. In fact, drivers already interact with Grok on their central touchscreens every day.
Recently, a short social media reply from a SpaceXAI engineer caught the attention of Tesla owners. On X, product designer Maya asked whether drivers will soon connect Grok Bot directly to their vehicles. She posted: “Can I connect @bot to my Tesla so I can talk to grok while I drive and assign tasks to my agents? It would be wild getting stuff done during my commute.” In response, SpaceXAI team member Louise Giam, who works on Grok Chat and Voice, replied with a brief message: “Stay tuned.”
In-car Grok grows from chatbot to controller
Tesla first delivered Grok to customer cars in July 2025 as part of software update 2025.26. At that time, the program operated strictly as a conversational tool without access to physical car switches. However, Tesla changed that setup with its 2026 Summer Update.
Under version 2026.26, drivers can use spoken phrases to open the glovebox, change cabin temperature, place phone calls, and select songs . The system runs on the newer Grok Voice Think Fast 2.0 model, which processes speech and reasoning at the same time. Still, older Tesla cars built with Intel Atom processors cannot run these voice hardware actions. Only vehicles with AMD Ryzen chips receive the full capability.
Musk targets conversational self-driving integration
Tesla chief executive Elon Musk stated in June that the company will connect Grok directly with Full Self-Driving. In response to an owner asking for natural spoken ride instructions on X, Musk replied that the feature would arrive in roughly three months. Soon, drivers could tell the vehicle where to drop passengers or instruct it to find distant parking spots.
Earlier internal memos indicated that Tesla staff test Grok tools for routine engineering tasks. Meanwhile, SpaceX uses Grok Voice systems to handle thousands of incoming Starlink customer calls every day.

Yet, several hurdles remain before autonomous agents take over broader car responsibilities. European authorities and United States lawmakers questioned xAI over safety safeguards and content moderation earlier this year. At present, SpaceXAI provides Grok Bot only on desktop and mobile platforms, leaving in-car agent integration as a strong possibility for future software releases rather than an active product today.
