Tesla has raised prices for the Model S and Model X in North America and Europe. This increase comes after recent price drops.

Price Changes

The Model X Long Range was $79,990, which made it eligible for a $7,500 federal tax credit. Now, the price is $84,990, pushing it above the tax credit limit. Some buyers will effectively pay $12,500 more.

The Model X Plaid went from $89,990 to $99,990. Canada and Europe also saw increases. Two weeks ago, Canada raised Model S and X prices by CAD 4,000 due to currency fluctuations.

Here are the new prices before taxes or rebates:

Free Supercharging & Premium Connectivity

To offset the higher prices, Tesla is adding Lifetime Free Supercharging for all Model S and X vehicles. Free Premium Connectivity is included as well, saving owners $10/month or $99/year.

Supercharging fees for congestion or idle time still apply.

Why the Price Hike?

Sales for the Model S and Model X are down. More buyers are choosing the Model 3 and Model Y, which now have features once exclusive to the larger models, like ventilated seats. The Cybertruck could also be taking away potential Model X buyers.

Tesla builds the Model S and X in Fremont, California. Raising prices outside the U.S. makes sense since U.S. deliveries are cheaper for Tesla.

In 2024, Tesla sold 84,133 Model S, Model X, and Cybertruck units combined. By comparison, 1.7 million Model 3 and Model Y vehicles were sold. Lower demand might push Tesla to phase out the Model S and X in favor of newer models.

Tesla sales dipped in January. Time will tell how the price hikes affect future sales.
