Tesla has recently shared an update on the growth and performance of its Supercharger Network for the third quarter of 2024.
According to the Tesla Charging account, the Supercharger Network experienced significant expansion in Q3 2024. The company opened an additional 2,800 Supercharger stalls during this period, marking a year-over-year network growth of 23%. Based on these results, industry watchers estimate that Tesla has likely constructed nearly 62,400 Superchargers worldwide to date.
The Tesla Supercharger Network also reported impressive energy delivery figures for the quarter. It provided 1.4 TWh of energy, representing a 27% year-over-year increase. This substantial energy output enabled Tesla owners to save over 150 million gallons of gasoline, resulting in an offset of more than 3 billion pounds of CO2 emissions.
Max de Zegher, Tesla’s Director of Charging for North America, Europe, Middle East, Africa, and the Asia Pacific region, expressed his admiration for the team’s achievements. He stated that he was “Impressed by what the hyper-focused team is pulling off.”
These results appear to validate CEO Elon Musk’s earlier statements about the Supercharger Network’s continued growth. Earlier this year, concerns arose within the EV community following reports that Musk had laid off the majority of the Supercharger team. This decision was met with strong disapproval from longtime Tesla watchers, who consider the Supercharger Network to be one of Tesla’s greatest assets.
In response to these concerns, Musk took to X to reassure the electric vehicle community about Tesla’s commitment to the Supercharger Network. He clarified that while the company still plans to expand the network, the focus would shift towards achieving 100% uptime and expanding existing Supercharger locations worldwide. Musk stated, “Tesla still plans to grow the Supercharger network, just at a slower pace for new locations and more focus on 100% uptime and expansion of existing locations.”
The latest Q3 2024 results suggest that despite earlier concerns, Tesla’s Supercharger Network continues to grow and improve, supporting the company’s position in the electric vehicle market.
