Tesla is giving buyers of the Model S and Model X free Supercharging for as long as they own or lease the vehicle.
Limited-Time Offer for Two Low-Volume Models
Tesla rarely offers Supercharging incentives. When it does, it’s usually to boost sales of certain models.
This time, the deal applies to two vehicles that Elon Musk once (in 2019) said Tesla keeps around for “sentimental reasons.”
“I mean, they’re very expensive, made in low volume. To be totally frank, we’re continuing to make them more for sentimental reasons than anything else. They’re really of minor importance to the future.”
The Model S and Model X are not top sellers, but they are Tesla’s original flagship vehicles.
Musk admitted in 2019 that the company continues making them out of nostalgia rather than necessity.
How the Offer Works
If you buy or lease a new Model S or Model X, you won’t have to pay for Supercharging as long as you own or lease the car.
The free charging stays with your Tesla account and cannot be transferred to another person or vehicle, even if you sell the car.
Exclusions:
- Used Teslas
- Business purchases
- Commercial use (rideshare, taxis, delivery services)
- Idle and congestion fees (still apply)
Tesla’s Effort to Move More Vehicles
Tesla hasn’t made major updates to the Model S or Model X in years, the last big change was the launch of the Plaid version in 2022.
Some believe Tesla could stop making them eventually, but for now, they remain in production.
However, Tesla is still adjusting prices on these models. Just recently, the company raised the price of the Model X by $5,000 in the U.S.
This Supercharging offer is another way Tesla is trying to boost sales of its two longest-running models.
