Tesla has released a new video showcasing updates to the refreshed Model Y, known as “Juniper.” The video includes insights from Tesla’s Head of Design Franz von Holzhausen, Vice President of Vehicle Engineering Lars Moravy, and other executives and engineers.
New Design Approach
Franz von Holzhausen explains that the goal was to give the Model Y a stronger identity.
“When we set out to redesign the Model Y, we looked at trying to give the car a little bit more of its own unique personality,”
The updated design refines the SUV’s look and functionality while keeping Tesla’s signature style.
Front Camera and Autopilot Upgrades
The new Model Y includes a front-facing camera with a 180-degree field of view. This improves assisted driving and smart summon.
In total, the vehicle now has nine cameras to optimize Autopilot and Full Self-Driving (FSD).
Lightbar Updates
The 2025 Model Y features a front lightbar and a reflective rear lightbar. These changes make the SUV look wider and slightly improve aerodynamics.
Creative Manager of Design Sahm Jafari explains that the front lightbar helps direct airflow over the front tires.
Frunk with Drain Plug
Tesla has redesigned the frunk to be more practical. It now includes a drain plug, making it easier to use as a wash station or cooler, and plans to release accessories to expand its functionality.
More Efficient Tires
Tesla has developed upgraded tires for the Model Y, improving efficiency, handling, and road noise. These tires reduce rolling resistance.
Rear Screen with Bluetooth Audio
The refreshed Model Y includes a rear infotainment screen that allows two Bluetooth headsets to connect at once, so passengers can listen to separate audio.
The car also has 16 speakers, some of which are hidden for a more immersive sound experience
Improved Acoustic Glass
Tesla has upgraded the acoustic glass, cutting noise inside the cabin by 20%. The new door seals help reduce blower speeds.
Tesla released a video on Saturday showing all these updates. The refreshed Model Y is now available in multiple markets.
