Tesla brings a new Model Y to China that reaches farther on one charge. This version is called Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive and starts at 288,500 yuan, or about $40,400. Buyers who pick it get the longest driving range in the country, up to 821 km (510 miles) based on China’s CLTC standard.

Features and comfort
The inside stays simple. Up front, there’s a 15.4-inch touchscreen. Passengers sitting in back control their own seat heat and have an 8-inch screen for movies and games. Bluetooth device support works from both screens.
Tesla uses LG Energy Solution’s ternary lithium battery for this car. The strong CLTC rating benefits Chinese buyers. Still, shoppers outside China may want to know the CLTC figures tend to be higher than EPA ratings commonly used in the U.S. For reference, the Long Range RWD Model Y would reach about 357 miles by EPA standards, still more than the U.S. Long Range AWD.
Tesla faces new rivals in China’s electric car industry. With this update, Tesla tries to attract people who care about driving farther without charging as often. The Model Y L, with six seats, appeals to families who need extra space. There’s no word yet on when these versions might reach the United States.
Tesla’s Long Range RWD Model Y offers more miles between charges but keeps many features the same as the base version. Sitting between the base and AWD on price, it fills a gap for those who want longer range without going for the highest spec. With new choices arriving from other brands, Tesla works to keep its place by offering extra range and fresh options for families.
