Tesla is issuing a recall for 2,431 Cybertruck vehicles due to a problem with the drive inverter. This could result in a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.
The recall, which took effect on November 5th, was published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The issue relates to the metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs) used in the drive inverter.
The affected vehicles, which were produced between November 6, 2023 and July 30, 2024, can experience a loss of drive power to the wheels if the inverter stops producing torque.
Despite pressing the accelerator, the vehicle may not move forward as expected when this issue occurs.
Tesla says there have been no collisions, fatalities or injuries related to this problem.
This marks the sixth recall for the Cybertruck so far.
Previous issues that required recalls included problems with the accelerator pedals, improperly adhered bed trim, front wiper failure, and rearview camera malfunctions.
Unlike some prior Cybertruck recalls, this latest issue is confined to specific VINs equipped with the affected drive inverter part.
Tesla will be required to perform physical service on the recalled vehicles to address the problem, rather than relying on an over-the-air software update.
