Tesla has announced its fifth recall for the Cybertruck since its launch in late 2023. This latest recall affects over 27,000 vehicles due to a software issue causing delayed activation of the rearview camera display when shifting into reverse.
The problem, which can result in the display remaining blank for up to 8 seconds, violates U.S. regulations requiring rearview screens to activate within 2 seconds of shifting to reverse. Tesla has addressed the issue with a free software update, and plans to notify affected owners by mail on November 25.
This recall follows a series of others since the Cybertruck’s November 2023 debut. Previous issues included loose trim pieces, faulty windshield wipers, and a sticking accelerator pedal. These recurring problems have posed challenges for early adopters of the much-anticipated vehicle.
The Cybertruck, Elon Musk’s futuristic pickup truck, faced significant delays before its initial delivery to a small group of customers in November 2023, arriving two years later than originally planned.
