Tesla Cybertruck: EV Rebate Eligibility & RWD Model Confirmed

Single Motor RWD Coming in 2025

Tesla has confirmed plans to produce a Single Motor Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) Cybertruck for the 2025 model year.

This announcement comes from a recent filing with the US Department of Energy.

This variant was part of the original Cybertruck lineup announcement.

It was notably absent from both the Foundation Series launch and the subsequent non-Foundation Series release in late 2024.

Tesla initially indicated a 2025 release date for the RWD model on their website, but this information was later removed.

The RWD version has attracted significant interest from potential buyers, especially due to the higher-than-expected pricing of other Cybertruck variants at launch.

Federal EV Tax Rebate Eligibility

The filing also revealed that the Cybertruck now qualifies for the $7,500 US Federal EV Tax Rebate.

This benefit applies specifically to the AWD model, provided it stays under the $80,000 price cap without additional options.

Notably, Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) package, available for $8,000, doesn’t count toward this cap as it’s not considered a vehicle add-on.

Potential buyers should note that the incoming US Administration plans to terminate the Federal EV Tax Rebate program in late January 2025.

This creates a limited window of opportunity for those considering a purchase.

Current Pricing Structure

Here’s the pricing breakdown for all Cybertruck variants:

VariantBase PricePrice After Rebate
RWD*$60,990$53,490
AWD$79,990$72,490
Cyberbeast$99,990Not Eligible

*Note: The RWD price is based on Tesla’s previous website listing from August 2024 and hasn’t been officially confirmed for the 2025 model.

Model History Context

When the Foundation Series launched, Tesla only offered the Tri-motor Cyberbeast and Dual Motor AWD models.

This lineup remained unchanged through the non-Foundation series release in the second half of 2024.

The RWD variant significantly expands the Cybertruck lineup, making it more accessible to a broader market.
