Tesla Warns Trump Administration Tariffs Could Drive Up Electric Vehicle Prices

Tesla sent a letter to Jamieson Greer, the U.S. trade representative. The company said Trump’s tariffs could make its electric cars cost more. Tesla explained that getting some parts in the U.S. is tough. Supply chain problems make it hard or even impossible to source everything locally.

The company wants fair trade. It asked the White House to think about how tariffs hurt U.S. makers. Tesla wrote:

“Nonetheless, even with aggressive localisation of the supply chain, certain parts and components are difficult or impossible to source within the US.”

They urged Greer to look at supply chain limits. Tesla said:

“further evaluate domestic supply chain limitations to ensure that US manufacturers are not unduly burdened by trade actions that could result in the imposition of cost-prohibitive tariffs on necessary components.”

Tariffs hit Tesla’s global sales

Tesla sends cars to places like Canada. Tariffs there have raised prices. The U.S. pushed trade rules, and Canada fought back with its own tariffs. That’s made electric vehicles pricier in some areas. Tesla had to bump up prices in Canada. In the U.S., models like the Model X cost more now too.

Trump supports Tesla

The letter went out March 11. That same day, Trump bought a Deep Red Tesla Model S Plaid. He did it at a White House event with Elon Musk. Trump said good things about Tesla:

“Tesla’s a great company; they’re American cars, it’s American made. He employs thousands of people. He has the most modern plants in the world. I know people that have these cars; It blows them away. They love them.”

Musk and Trump are talking about government spending. But Tesla still feels the tariff squeeze. The U.S. has pressed Canada on trade, and some states face countertariffs on electric supplies.

Tesla caught in trade shifts

Trump is setting his trade plans. Tesla’s dealing with the fallout. Musk keeps ties with the White House, but the company’s costs are climbing. Tariffs are hitting hard, even with Trump’s praise.
