Tesla software rollout brings new 3D icons and mapping

Tesla is rolling out a new update for its in-car screens. Owners can now see more types of vehicles on the display. This update also adds better 3D visuals to the navigation maps.

Latest changes in vehicle visualizations

Tesla’s latest software, version 2025.38, makes the car’s screen smarter when showing what’s around you. The system now recognizes more vehicles, such as ambulances, fire trucks, garbage trucks, school buses, trams, and European-style semi trucks. For the first time, smaller vehicles like golf carts are visible too. There are new icons for skateboards, scooters, wheelchairs, strollers, and trailers, some with movement animations.

A Cybertruck owner shared that, after installing the 2025.38.6 update on November 6, 2025, Tesla’s UI started showing his Smart Car as a golf cart.

Tesla’s system detected the Smart Car and visualized it using the golf cart asset.

Improved map and buildings

With this update, Tesla added 3D buildings to the map view. When you turn on this feature, you see tall structures and other city shapes as you drive. Streets and intersections stand out, making it easier to plan your turns or route. You can use the regular map or 3D buildings, but not both with satellite view at the same time. Tesla uses Google’s API for buildings in most countries except China.

Other updates in 2025.38

The update gives the dashcam viewer new features. Street names appear on recorded event videos, and the mobile app streams at better quality. There are new control options using the scroll wheel, such as muting navigation or turning on the Bioweapon Defense Mode. Owners can now require a phone key for their driver profile, which adds security. Tron Mode is a separate animation option with visuals from the Tron: Ares movie.

Tesla is planning to switch its in-car rendering engine from Godot to Unreal Engine for newer cars. This will allow even smoother visuals, better lighting, and more realistic buildings and terrain. The feature is still arriving and will need newer hardware to run.

For global expansion, Tesla is preparing for diverse vehicle types by adding models common in places like Europe and Asia. As the rollout continues, owners will get more features and more detailed visuals in future updates.

However, owners with older Intel-based systems may not get all updates. Most new options are live now for cars with the right hardware and will reach more users soon.
