Tesla added an air-cooled wireless charging pad to the Model Y L. Old Tesla wireless chargers left many phones hot and slow to charge. People often had their phones stop working with alerts like “iPhone too hot.” This happened because wireless charging pads let heat build up under your phone, especially when charging at higher speeds.
In a first for @Tesla, the new Model Y L has air cooled wireless phone chargers. The charging base has small slit air vents in the center that blows cool air onto your phone to prevent overheating.

The new Model Y L fixes this with small vents built between the charger pads. When you set your phone down, these vents blow cool air over the back of your device. Air comes from inside the car, so cooling works even in summer heat or heavy traffic. Owners say phones now stay much cooler, even during quick charging.
Charging speed gets an upgrade. The charger on the driver’s side now supports up to 50W. That matches the speed offered by top home chargers. The passenger side gives 30W. This is faster than most car wireless pads, which usually max out at 15W. So drivers and passengers can charge quicker and skip cables.
The new charger pad is split into two spots, one for the driver and one for the front passenger. Both sides get cooling air flow. The vents don’t make extra noise. They are small enough to avoid dust but big enough to keep your phone at a safe temperature.
People used to worry about their phones shutting down during long drives, using maps, or running music apps. Owners posted complaints about lost navigation, calls dropping, or music stopping because of overheating. Early reviews say the new cooling system takes care of those worries.
The charger works well in cold weather too. The airflow adapts to the car’s climate settings, so your phone doesn’t get cold in winter. The surface of the charger is easy to clean, with no extra bulk or complicated moving parts.
Phone batteries last longer if they avoid high heat while charging. Tesla’s fix could push other car makers to try air cooling too.
