Tesla’s updated Model Y got the highest rating from Euro NCAP in November 2025. The car scored 91% for adult safety and 93% for child protection and also performed well for vulnerable road users, with an 86% score, and reached 92% for safety assist.

Tesla made major changes for protecting children. There’s a radar system in the cabin that can spot children left in the back seat. This radar tracks movements, including breathing and heartbeat. If a child is left alone, alerts are sent to the owner’s phone. The car keeps the cabin cool and, if needed, calls for help.

The car’s restraint systems work well with all types of child seats. There is full protection for children in case of a crash. Tesla added extra airbags and side protection to improve safety.
Help for the driver
The Model Y uses cameras and radar to watch the driver that can spot when someone is distracted or starting to fall asleep with microsleep detection. Then, the system sends warnings or stops the car if needed.
Tesla’s Safety Assist uses automatic braking and lane support to avoid accidents. The car’s sensors pick up threats like other vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and even motorbikes and brakes automatically when a crash risk is detected. Driver monitoring also boosts forward collision warning sensitivity.
Better protection for pedestrians
One reason Model Y scored higher in 2025 is its “active hood.” If the car hits a pedestrian, the hood pops up. This reduces head injuries. The bumper protects legs and pelvis in an accident.
Autonomous braking can see cyclists and pedestrians ahead. During tests, it stopped for people crossing, including small children and cyclists, avoiding collisions even at higher speeds.
Stricter testing standards
Euro NCAP increased test difficulty for 2025. The organization now checks how cars protect people in more scenarios, including side impacts, motorcycle collisions, junctions, and driver distraction. Tesla met all these tougher requirements. The Model Y scored higher than many competitors for both child and pedestrian safety.
Tesla updates vehicles by adding new safety features via software. Owners with older models sometimes get new features after a recall or update.
Other features include rear seat airbags, extra crash protection from the battery, and far-side airbags that open between front seats for side impacts. Multi-collision braking keeps brakes on after a crash to prevent further accidents.
Tesla’s 2025 Model Y sets a strong example in crash safety and driver assistance. With new technology like cabin radar for child safety and reliable pedestrian protection, it gives families and drivers new ways to stay safe.
