Tesla has filed an application to expand its in-house vehicle rental program to Florida. The Florida filing follows the company’s earlier rental rollout and later expansion filings in other states, including Michigan.

Florida is a large travel market, and the state reported about 143 million visitors in 2024. Also, the state supports steady demand for rental cars, especially around airport corridors. Florida is also gaining ground in EV adoption, according to regional reporting on EV sales rankings.

How the rental package works

Tesla uses flat daily rates and bundles charging and software into one price.

  • Model 3 and Model Y: $60 per day.
  • Cybertruck: $75 per day.
  • Model S and Model X: $90 per day.

Every rental includes free Supercharging for the rental period. And Full Self-Driving (Supervised) is included for renters.

FSD (Supervised) is sold separately as a monthly subscription for about $99 in the U.S., so the rental bundle includes that access without a separate bill. Rentals can run up to seven days. Unlimited miles are included, but renters cannot cross state lines.

Tesla has used rentals as a sales funnel before, including purchase credits tied to buying a car after the rental in some markets. Therefore, the Florida plan can work as a longer test drive that feeds direct sales.

Tesla has also pushed broad FSD trials to boost adoption. And FSD take rates have been higher among Model S and Model X owners than among Model 3 and Model Y drivers, so rentals can widen exposure.

Pressure on rental rivals

Hertz and other large rental brands already offer Teslas, including in Florida. However, Tesla’s direct offer bundles Supercharging and FSD into the daily rate, which differs from the add-on structure common in the rental industry.

Peer-to-peer platforms like Turo list Teslas too, but terms vary by host. Therefore, Tesla’s program competes on one set of terms and one bundled feature list.
