New Footage Hints at Tesla’s Upcoming Low-Cost EVs

Tesla is getting ready to launch new electric vehicles that will cost less. These cars are expected to come out in 2025. They will have a design similar to the current Model 3 and Model Y. Recent drone videos from the Fremont Factory have added more interest, possibly showing early looks at these new models.

Drone footage hints at new designs

Two videos filmed by the YouTube channel Met God in Wilderness on April 17 and April 24, 2025, show vehicles that could be Tesla’s upcoming affordable EVs. The first video shows an unfinished car with a roof narrower than the Model Y.

This suggests a smaller design.

Production plans confirmed

Tesla’s first quarter 2025 report confirms that production of these new models will begin in the first half of the year. The company plans to use a mix of new and existing technologies. They will build the new cars on the same production lines as the Model 3 and Model Y. Tesla’s Vice President of Vehicle Engineering, Lars Moravy, said these models will look similar to the existing lineup and will be priced for broader access.

Update on the Tesla Model 2 project

Tesla has long talked about creating a more affordable EV, often called the Model 2 or Model Q. This project has drawn a lot of attention from both investors and the public. Tesla’s goal is to sell the new car at around $25,000. By using current factories and technology, Tesla plans to reach more buyers while keeping costs down.

In the Q1 2025 Update Letter, Tesla restated that production of new models, including more affordable ones, is set for the first half of 2025. Tesla aims to reach a production capacity of about three million vehicles, up from 2024 levels.

While things look positive now, there have been mixed reports earlier this year. A Fortune article published in March claimed that Tesla might cancel the affordable EV project and focus instead on a cheaper Model Y version or shift attention to robotaxis. But Tesla’s Q1 2025 letter and Moravy’s comments seem to show that the project is still going ahead, even if some uncertainty remains.
