Elon Musk wants to test his new AI, Grok 5, against the best League of Legends team in the world abd Musk shared his plan on X. Grok 5, made by xAI, will play League of Legends against T1, the team led by star player Faker. T1 just won their third straight world title a few weeks ago. Now T1 says they’re ready to compete with Grok 5. Riot Games, which created the game, has responded and is open to the event, too.

Musk says Grok 5 won’t get any special treatment. The AI can only use a regular monitor feed, like a person would. No internal data. Its eye and hand speeds get capped at normal human levels, with no quick processing tricks. This makes the match fair. Musk says Grok 5 should play the game by reading instructions and learning from practice with no custom training just for League.
Reaction from top pros and developers
Some pro players like Pobelter say they want to help Musk’s group. They compare this contest to older AI challenges, such as when OpenAI beat humans in Dota 2. Other experts, such as AI researcher Oriol Vinyals, suggest trying Grok on real-time strategy games too. He also brought up using Tesla’s robot, Optimus, to handle the mouse and keyboard for the AI.

Some players don’t think Grok 5 can win. Voyboy, a veteran player, pointed out that League of Legends isn’t just about reacting fast. The game takes teamwork, strategy, and reading hidden details, which is tough for any AI. Doublelift, a well-known pro, even joked he would shave his head if Grok managed to win against T1.
Rules make this challenge harder than past AI vs. pro matches. OpenAI 5 got to play Dota 2 using computer code and much faster hand movements. Grok only gets what a human can see and react to.
Grok 5 will launch in 2026. It uses 6 trillion parameters, making it the biggest model yet from xAI. Musk says there’s a 10% chance Grok 5 might become the first AI with general intelligence. This chance has brought in more interest from researchers, developers, and even game fans who want to see if an AI can really keep up with humans in live matches.
T1’s team is fresh from three straight championships, making them a serious challenge for any opponent. If Grok 5 beats them, it would be a milestone. Still, most see the matchup as open-ended. No match date has been set yet. As both sides are serious, the event could set new records for online viewers.
Musk’s Grok 5 trial and Tesla’s new record push his AI companies into new territory. Grok 5 could shape the way people see AI in games if it plays fairly, under human-like limits. At the same time, Tesla’s self-driving numbers support Musk’s plan from 2016 to get global approval. Both moves could affect tech, gaming, and law across different countries soon.
