A petition to remove Elon Musk’s Canadian citizenship is gaining attention in Canada’s House of Commons. It argues Musk’s political views and his ties to former U.S. President Donald Trump are reasons to revoke his citizenship.
The Petition
The petition was created by Qualia Reed, a writer from Nanaimo, British Columbia, as reported by The Hill.
It has received backing from several politicians, including Democrat MP Charlie Angus, who has been critical of Musk in the past.
By Saturday evening, the petition had more than 34,000 signatures. In Canada, electronic petitions must have at least 500 signatures to be looked at by the House of Commons.
Elon Musk was born in South Africa and is a U.S. citizen. He also has Canadian citizenship through his mother, Maye Musk, who was born in Saskatchewan, Canada.
The petition argues that Musk’s actions are against Canada’s national interests. It also alleges he has used his wealth and influence to meddle in Canadian elections.

- Elon Musk has engaged in activities that go against the national interest of Canada;
- He has used his wealth and power to influence our elections;
- He has now become a member of a foreign government that is attempting to erase Canadian sovereignty; and
- The attempts of Elon Musk to attack Canadian sovereignty must be addressed.
We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call upon the Prime Minister to revoke Elon Musk’s dual citizenship status and revoke his Canadian passport effective immediately.
The petition started accepting signatures on February 20, 2025. It will close on June 20, 2025. Right now, it has 245,105 signatures from people across Canada.
Ontario has the most signatures with 91,232. British Columbia is next with 50,834. Quebec follows with 42,350.
