Elon Musk’s tunneling venture, The Boring Company, continues to make steady advances in its Texas operations, proving itself as an underappreciated player in his portfolio of companies.
Recent developments in Bastrop, Texas showcase the company’s commitment to safety and operational excellence. The Boring Company recently collaborated with the Austin Fire Department for safety drills in its Bastrop tunnel, sharing updates through its X (formerly Twitter) account.
“Thanks to Austin Fire Department for being a great partner – the teams have initiated recurring tunnel safety drills in Texas. Goal is always to maximize Loop system safety and reliability,” the company announced.

The shared images revealed a Tesla Model 3 surrounded by emergency response teams inside the tunnel, along with fire trucks stationed outside the tunnel entrance. Notably, the entrance design appears to draw inspiration from the popular Fallout video game series.
Meanwhile, significant progress is being made at Tesla’s Giga Texas facility. According to veteran drone operator Joe Tegtmeyer, who regularly monitors the Giga Texas complex, The Boring Company’s teams are finalizing preparations for the tunnel’s west exit area, including facing structures and driveways.

The ongoing work at the tunnel’s south extension suggests that Tesla may soon utilize these tunnels to transport newly manufactured Model Y and Cybertruck vehicles from the main factory building to a dedicated holding lot.
According to Tegtmeyer’s observations, the prospect of seeing Cybertrucks traversing through the Boring Company’s tunnel at Gigafactory Texas appears increasingly imminent.
