Tesla introduced a new contest that gives nine owners lifetime free Supercharging. The automaker tracks customer charging data throughout the year, and it plans to announce the winners in early 2027. The reward applies only to the winning vehicle, and the perk ends when the owner sells the car or the lease expires.
Competition regions and rules
The event divides the globe into three regions. The Americas, Asia-Pacific, and EMEA make up the competition map. China runs a separate contest, so it sits outside the Asia-Pacific group. Several countries in the EMEA region sit out too, including Italy, Portugal, Greece, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Romania, Poland, Iceland, Estonia, and Qatar, citing local regulations. Users compete against others in their assigned region, but they can charge anywhere in the world to build their stats.
After the year ends, Tesla assigns you to a region based on where you visited the most unique chargers. The company ranks participants across three distinct categories.
How to win the categories
Tesla posted the exact criteria for the awards online. The official guidelines state: “In January 2027, @Tesla will celebrate nine outstanding Supercharger users from 2026 by awarding them free Supercharging for their Tesla vehicle for as long as they own it. Winners are determined by their use of the Supercharger network throughout the 2026 calendar year. Three winners will be selected in each of three regions, for a total of nine winners worldwide.”.
The company splits the awards into Longest Trip, Most Unique Supercharger Sites Visited, and Most Energy Supercharged. The Longest Trip category requires a continuous streak of unique charging locations, and each new site must be visited within 24 hours of the previous session’s start time. Then the Most Unique category counts the highest number of distinct charging sites visited during the year. The Most Energy category tracks the total kilowatt-hours delivered at Superchargers in 2026.
If someone wins the Longest Trip category, they drop out of the running for the other two. This rule prevents one person from sweeping all the awards in their region. If two drivers tie for a category, the person who charged the most total energy takes the prize.
Deadlines and eligibility requirements
Entering the contest takes only a few taps inside the Tesla app. How exactly do you sign up? You must open the 2026 Passport feature in the app at least once before January 1, 2027, to become eligible. Your final score depends entirely on the values recorded the last time you opened the Passport before the new year begins. For instance, drivers should check the app one last time after their final charging session of 2026 to lock in their latest numbers.
Some vehicles cannot enter the competition. Cars that already have free Supercharging do not qualify. Commercial vehicles acting as taxis or delivery cars face the same restriction.
Tesla plans to notify the winners by email in January 2027. The company will apply the free charging credits to the winning vehicles before March 1, 2027. Standard idle and congestion fees still apply to the winners, and third-party chargers do not accept the free credits. You can learn more info here.
