Tesla Updates FSD Purchase Experience

Tesla changed its Online Design Studio. Now, instead of showing a basic image for Full Self-Driving (FSD), buyers see video clips. These videos focus on real driving situations. The company wants customers to understand what FSD does before making a decision.

FSD costs $8,000 as a single payment or $99 for each month. Every customer who orders a car can try FSD for free first and then choose to pay if they want to keep it.

Tesla’s latest data shows cars using FSD average one crash for every 6.7 million miles. Regular drivers average one crash every 702,000 miles. These results mean FSD vehicles go about ten times farther between crashes than cars driven by people. Still, drivers must be ready to take control at all times.

Elon Musk said a new version of FSD is getting ready. It will use a much larger artificial intelligence system and process more video data. Musk estimates the new model will arrive next month. Tesla recently showed off FSD with a seven-hour drive from the Bay Area to Los Angeles with no driver assistance the entire way.

Financial Incentives Increase FSD Sales

Tesla offers special financing for Cybertruck buyers who add FSD, including zero percent APR deals. Model S and X buyers get one free upgrade for their car if they purchase FSD.

Tesla’s system relies on cameras and neural networks instead of lidar or radar sensors. It is defined as an SAE Level 2 driver-assistance system, meaning a person must supervise and be ready to intervene. The technology keeps improving but still needs a human behind the wheel.

About 14 percent of new Tesla buyers add FSD. About 2 percent of free trial users end up paying for it, although Tesla disagrees with that figure and claims a higher rate.

Tesla now uses videos and financial deals to help customers better understand FSD. The goal is for more people to try full self-driving and feel comfortable trusting it on the road
