Tesla added a new safety feature that stops passengers from opening a car door when something is approaching. This helps protect the person inside and others nearby.
Tesla constantly improves safety through engineering and software updates. The latest Model Y and Model 3 now have a system that prevents doors from opening if another vehicle or cyclist is detected in the blind spot.
One Tesla owner saw this in action when a passing car triggered the system. The door stayed closed, preventing a possible accident.

Tesla confirmed this feature is available on the new Model Y and Model 3. The updated Model 3, known as “Highland,” has been in the U.S. for about a year.
The refreshed Model Y, called “Juniper,” will start deliveries in March after its U.S. launch in late January.
Tesla first introduced this in China in December, and it has been available in the U.S. since November.
Tesla describes how it works:
“If you try to open a door while an approaching object is detected in your blind spot (e.g., a cyclist or other vehicle), the blind spot warning light will flash, an audio warning will sound, and the door will not open on the first press of the button. Wait, and then press the button again to override the warning.”
