Tesla has announced plans to bring its adaptive driving beam and Matrix headlights to the U.S. with the new Model Y. This was confirmed in a video featuring two of the company’s top executives.

In a video posted on “The Jay Leno’s Garage” YouTube channel, Tesla’s Head Designer Franz von Holzhausen and Vice President of Vehicle Engineering Lars Moravy discussed the updated Model Y.
They confirmed the car will include Matrix LED headlights and the adaptive beam feature, which adjusts the headlight pattern based on road conditions.
How Matrix Headlights Work
Matrix headlights use LEDs. They can dim certain parts when they sense other cars or curves.
This keeps the lights bright for the driver. It also stops glare for oncoming traffic.
Moravy said Tesla will turn on the adaptive driving feature soon after the Model Y launches in the U.S. launch, expected in March.
Safety Benefits
Both executives highlighted the safety improvements. The headlights provide better visibility for the driver without blinding others on the road.
This makes driving safer for everyone.
Availability in Other Markets
Matrix headlights are already available in Europe and other regions. Moravy had previously hinted at their arrival in North America but didn’t specify a timeline until now.
Not Just for Tesla
Other carmakers like Rivian and Mercedes also offer similar headlight technology.
Tesla’s adaptive beam feature might also be added to other North American models with compatible hardware through future updates.
