A Tesla Cybertruck brought into the United Kingdom has been seized by authorities.
The Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said the vehicle is not allowed on U.K. roads due to safety concerns.
What Happened?
The GMP stopped the Cybertruck driver in Whitefield, Bury, on Thursday night.
According to a BBC News report, the vehicle was flagged as unsafe and illegal to drive on British roads.
Apparently, the Cybertruck was registered and insured in another country, but that didn’t stop authorities from stepping in.
The Cybertruck driver, who’s a U.K. resident, has been reported, and the case has now been passed over to Operation Wolverine, a team that specializes in dealing with uninsured vehicles.
To reclaim the Cybertruck, the owner will need to prove ownership and provide proper insurance documentation.
GMP’s Statement
In a social media post, the GMP explained why the Cybertruck was confiscated.
“While this may seem trivial to some, there are legitimate concerns about the safety of other road users or pedestrians if they were involved in a collision with the Cybertruck,”
the GMP stated.
“The Tesla Cybertruck is not road-legal in the U.K. and does not hold a certificate of conformity,”
the police added.
Cybertruck in the U.K.
The Tesla Cybertruck has not been officially released in the U.K., but private buyers have brought the vehicle into the country.
Last year, Tesla showcased the Cybertruck at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it drew significant attention from attendees.
